Services - Termite Control

Subterranean termites live in underground colonies, but may also colonize and travel through tubes above ground. The subterranean termite colony can contain thousands to millions of termites. The estimated cost for damage and control of termites in the United States each year is five billion dollars.

Termites feed on cellulose material which is in wood. Subterranean termites build and travel through a network of mud tubes made from excrement, soil and saliva. These tubes provide protection from predators and also help regulate moisture for the termites. The tubes provide a route from their colony to food sources. Termite damage can be in visible areas and also hidden behind walls, floors, ceilings, furnishings etc. Termite swarms normally occur in the spring of the year. Swarmers are the reproductives in a subterranean termite colony.

The swarmers emerge from the colony to mate and establish new colonies. These swarms can occur outside or inside a structure. Termite swarmers and flying ants are sometimes mistaken for each other. Termite swarmers have straight antennae, equal size wings and a straight body. Flying ants have elbowed antennae, different length wings and a pinched in waist.
